DALLAS COWBOYS LEGENDS BILLY JOE DUPREE, CORNELL GREEN, LEE ROY JORDAN, D.D. LEWIS, AND DREW PEARSON ENDORSE CYRUS MEHRI FOR NFLPA EXEC DIRECTOR
Cowboys Legends: “Cyrus has all the tools to get the job done.”
DALLAS, Texas (September 21) – Several Dallas Cowboys legends today endorsed Cyrus Mehri for Executive Director of the NFL Players Association. Mehri is campaigning for player choice and a democratic election process among union members in the face of a decision made yesterday by of a 14-member Selection Committee to rubberstamp an extension of the incumbent Executive Director’s tenure.
Billy Joe Dupree, Cornell Green, Lee Roy Jordan, D.D. Lewis, and Drew Pearson all threw their support behind Mehri, saying in a joint statement: “Cyrus has all the tools to get the job done.” Since Mehri initially announced his intention to run for the position on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” a month ago, a number of NFL legends have expressed their support for his candidacy, including eight Hall of Famers: Jim Brown, Harry Carson, Joe Greene, Leroy Kelly, Bob Lilly, Mike Singletary, Paul Warfield and Kellen Winslow, Sr.
The Cowboys’ legends joint statement reads as follows:
“We are very pleased that Cyrus has stepped forward to challenge DeMaurice Smith as head of the NFLPA. Cyrus has all the tools to get the job done. He knows the football community and he knows how to negotiate for workers. He cares about the legacy of the game and he cares about the future of the game. With Cyrus at the helm, we’ll be heading in the right direction.”
