CYRUS MEHRI RELEASES GAME PLAN TO CREATE ECONOMIC FAIRNESS AND PATHWAYS FOR GUARANTEED MONEY
Mehri: “We have the game plan to level the playing field for players”
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 18) – Cyrus Mehri, who last month announced his intention to run for the position of Executive Director of the NFLPA, released a game plan today to replace the current unfair Collective Bargaining Agreement with one that is economically fair.
“Players are getting a raw deal,” said Mehri. “What’s needed is new leadership to offer fresh energy and vision. We have the game plan to level the playing field for players.”
The document outlines a three-point economic plan while underscoring the ways Mehri will advocate for players and create pathways to guaranteed money. Drawing upon more than 25 years advocating for workers, Mehri plans to renegotiate the 2011 CBA to ensure players receive a fair share of the economic pie and reclaim the billions of dollars taken out of their pockets. The plan to create pathways for guaranteed money includes:
- Reducing the timetable for a second contract from four to five years down to three years.
- Closing salary cap loopholes, such as the “tolling” rule that unfairly prevents players, like Teddy Bridgewater who was injured days before the start of the 2017 season, from reaching a second contract.
- Achieving a threshold percentage of guaranteed contracts, to ensure owners share some of the risk that players typically bear.
