BARI-ELLEN ROBERTS, LEAD PLAINTIFF IN RACE DESCRIMINATION CASE AGAINST TEXACO, ENDORSES CYRUS MEHRI FOR NFLPA EXEC DIRECTOR

Roberts: “Cyrus is a ‘Gladiator for Justice’”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 24) – Bari-Ellen Roberts, who in 1994 became the lead plaintiff in the largest class action discrimination suit in history, today endorsed Cyrus Mehri for Executive Director of the NFL Players Association.

In a statement, Roberts said:

“I have known Cyrus since early in his career when he helped lead my landmark discrimination case, Roberts vs Texaco, which had an historic class action settlement of $176 million dollars for 1,400 African American employees at Texaco and led to significant changes in diversity policies throughout Corporate America.

“Cyrus is a ‘Gladiator for Justice.’ He uses his knowledge of the law as a weapon to fight the wrongs that his clients face. He uses his compassion for justice to motivate him and those around him to stay in the battle until that justice is attained. His history with the ‘Rooney Rule’ and the Fritz Pollard Alliance speaks volumes of his passion for NFL players, coaches, referees, staff and fans.

“There is no doubt about his ‘stats.’ His landmark cases are known throughout many industries and have resulted in big victories for his clients, be they celebrities or clerical workers; white collar or blue collar.

“Ultimately, his strongest weapon is his ability to listen. With that he can collaborate and negotiate effectively for the optimum outcome for those he represents.”
